Biography

Originally from Little Rock, Chris graduated from Hall High School In 1991. In 1995, he graduated from Hendrix College, where he earned a B.A. cum laude in economics and government with distinction. Chris later attended the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he graduated third in his class and earned a J.D. summa cum laude in 1998. He also served as the executive editor of the Arkansas Law Review, was a member of the board of advocates and served as a member of the university’s national moot court team, which advanced to the national finals in New York. He primarily practices in the areas of civil litigation, and other areas of practice include:

  • Commercial Litigation
  • Tractor-Trailor Litigation

In his first two years in practice, Chris was an associate in the litigation section of Friday, Eldridge & Clark in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was during this time period, that Chris started working with his current law partner, Tony Wilcox. Although not members of the same firm until more recently, Chris and Tony have worked together since 1998. In 2000, Chris moved to Jonesboro and practiced with the law firm of Orr, Scholtens, Willhite & Averitt, PLC. In 2007, Chris became a member of Scholtens & Averitt, PLC. In 2021, Chris and Tony formed Wilcox & Averitt, PLC.

Chris is married to Catherine Averitt. They have two children, Graham and Caroline. Chris is active in church and is also an ordained minister. His parents live in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where his father is a retired minister of the United Methodist Church, and his mother is a retired school teacher. He has two sisters who also live in Northwest Arkansas.
